Gida Nedi was a project by a team called Dhwani which does a lot of social and environmental services. I was very happy to get involved in such activities for the first time
Our plans was to leave by 7.40 AM, but due to huge traffic delays, we got delayed by one and a half hour. We reached the destination (Al Ameen Residential School) by 11.00 AM. The core Dhwani team had done a survey of the spot and had prepared a map. By the time the bus reached the spot, Swapna and Levin (main organizers) had marked all the spots where the trees have to be planted.
Once everyone assembled, we split ourselves into teams to work at different regions and started of working immediately. Our main idea was to get the trees planted by the school kids. The kids seemed to be far more enthusiast than us and co-operated with us really well. They also actively took part in all stages planting the tree - digging, planting and watering.
By the time we finished planting about 150-175 trees, it was about 3.00 pm. This is one good experience which I'll remember for a long time. Hoping to participate in more such activities in future.
